Milestone 3-State Project Example

Below you will find an example of Milestone 3 from a previous student.

Don't forget that Milestone 3 should not include any words, except for headings, titles, or sub-titles. It is expected that students memorize all of the information from their Milestone 2 outline as a way to demonstrate knowledge gained!

Field Trip to the University of Michigan

IT’S TIME FOR OUR COLLEGE VISIT!

Students have been working to complete all phases of the college project, including sending business letters to colleges for information and goodies, completing a college vocabulary book, pulling out important facts and figures from their chosen college and comparing those facts and figures with a partner’s college.  They’ve started working on their feature articles, which will ultimately “sell” their college at the college fair.

We will be taking the students to the University of Michigan on April 5th for an all day tour of the campus.  Students will learn about the different schools, buildings, and dorms and we will eat lunch at several of the dorm cafeterias, courtesy of the university. Students must be at school on time (8:30) to prepare for the trip.  Any students who are not at the school by the time the bus leaves will not be able to go on the trip.

This trip is a privilege for students who have completed all requirements of the college project so far and whose behavior has shown that they will make good choices outside of the school building. Teachers will be determining who will be invited to go based on the requirements and behavior.

The cost of the trip is $5. This money needs to be turned in to teachers by April 4th.

Students will need to bring the following items for the trip:
·      They are to dress in uniform for the trip.
·      Comfortable walking shoes (not necessarily uniform)
·      Sunscreen (if desired)
·      Hat (if desired)
·      Sunglasses (if desired)
·      Disposable camera (if desired)
****We go rain or shine, so students need to be prepared. ****

Brag Board-April

Brag Board
April

The brag board will be changing for the month of April. Please fill out the egg with the sentence starter,

(Child’s name) is an “eggspert” in__________________________________.

This was evident when ____________________________________________.

I want you to highlight something that your child has a lot of knowledge about that may not be known to a lot of people.

For example:
·      Jason is an “eggspert” about animals. This was evident when we went to the zoo and he was able to tell me facts about the various animals that I didn’t even know!
·      Jason is an “eggspert” in playing the piano. This was evident when he completed his first solo assemble in front of a huge audience.
·      Jason is an “eggspert” at drawing. This is evident in all of the artwork that is on display around our house.

After you have written your comments, please have your child decorate the egg neatly and creatively!!!

I will be keeping each of the brag board templates to make a small book at the end of the school year as a keepsake for your child. The children love reading your words on our board every day. Thank you for taking the time to complete them.

March is Reading Month Contest

UPA is having a school-wide reading contest to see who reads the most books this month. The winner of the contest from each grade level gets to be "Principal for the Day."  Every time your child reads a book and completes a book report form for that book, s/he will receive credit for that book.  The books must be read at home. Books read at school for guided reading or independent reading do not count toward the contest. Book report forms for my class will be available from me or you may print them below. Completed reports will be displayed outside of our classroom. Books read should be books at your child's level and not too easy for him/her.

March is Reading Month-Flash Mob

At what the teachers thought would be an all-school read in, to celebrate Reading Month, we were flash-mobbed by our students singing and dancing about reading. I can't believe they kept a secret that long! Most of the teachers had no idea it was going to happen!
Ms. Ritter and Mr. Kefgen wrote the lyrics and the entire AMPT staff was in on the surprise!

Brag Board-March

The brag board will be changing for the month of March. Please fill out the shamrock with the sentence starter,

Luck had NOTHING to do with (Child’s name) accomplishing, achieving, or overcoming…

I want you to highlight something GREAT that your child has achieved, accomplished, or overcame.

For example:
  • ·      Luck had NOTHING to do with Jason achieving a 100% on his math test. It was due to his hard work and studying!
  • ·      Luck had NOTHING to do with Jason overcoming his fear of snakes. It was through his determination and bravery that he was able to put one around his next at camp.
