Field Day is Wednesday, June 15, 2011
We will be spending the day at Wayne State’s Athletic Field, where the students will be participating in numerous activities. Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottle to use throughout the day and they are allowed to wear free dress in the form of athletic clothes. NO sandals or tank tops. Gym shoes required!
In order for this event to be possible, we are asking the students to contribute $5.00 to go towards the cost of food (hot dogs, chips, juice, etc). If your child could bring the money in by Friday, June 3rd, it would be greatly appreciated!
*Participation is a privilege, and its up to the discretion of your child’s teacher. Behavior starting now till the end of the school year is a key factor in this decision.

"Do Something" REFLECTION
Exhibition Reminder
The final part of the "Do Something" project is your child's REFLECTION of the entire project. This needs to be added to their powerpoint that they are creating for Milestone 3. This submission is NOT final. Your child will have the opportunity to modify their reflection before their exhibition. I would just like to see what they have thus far, to make sure that they are on the right track. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Below is a copy of the reflection form!

Podcast
We have just completed our first podcast. The students recorded an antonyms description of everyday household items. It's not the best quality, but we are still elated that we were able to accomplish a podcast with pictures.
We promise the next one will be better! :)

A NOTE FROM MRS. DRAIN
I wish you all could have been there to see the smiles on all of the children's faces when they finally got to meet their pen pals! It was priceless. Friday turned out to be better than I could've imagined and that wouldn't have been possible without each of you!
I just wanted to say thank you to all of the parents who donated items for the continental breakfast and the celebration! Thank you, thank you, and thank you!
I cannot wait until we Skype (video conference) with our pen pals this week and get the opportunity to visit their school. That date has not been confirmed because we are waiting on their administration (Mrs. Johnson has already granted us permission), but the tentative date could be Thursday, May 26th! I will keep you posted.
Check out the pictures below of your child with their pen pal.

MAP TESTING
MAP testing begins this week!
Wednesday, May 4th -Reading
Monday, May 9th-Math
Tuesday, May 10th - Language
We have had a classroom discussion about each student reaching their end of the year target RIT goal. I've expressed to the students that have already obtained their target goal in the Winter, that those scores can decrease, so it is imperative that each student continue to apply their personal best during the MAP testing!
Please have another discussion with your child about the importance of this assessment!
